  2. Melt the batter and whisk in the seasonings.
  3. Pour the butter of the cereal and mix well.
  4. Place the mix on to baking sheets and cook until golden brown.

How long does it keep?

Once you have made your BBQ Chex mix, let it cool completely before transferring to an airtight container. It will keep well at room temperature for up to 10 days, so it’s a great make ahead snack option.

Can you freeze it?

Yes! You can freeze the baked Chex mix, so be sure to make a double batch! It will keep well frozen for up to 3 months and you can thaw it at room temperature before enjoying.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups Crispix cereal
  • 3 cups Honey Nut Chex cereal or Rice Chex
  • 2 cups Cheerios
  • 1 cup Honey Bunches of Oats Honey Roasted Granola
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • ¼ cup BBQ sauce Blue’s Hog is great
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder Penzey’s 9000
  • ½ teaspoon seasoned salt
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Coarse sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  • Line 2 large rimmed baking sheets with aluminum foil and lightly spray with nonstick cooking spray. Adjust oven racks to upper/middle and lower/middle positions and heat oven to 250°F.

  • Gently mix all cereal and granola in a large bowl.

  • Melt butter and add BBQ sauce, chili powder, seasoned salt, smoked paprika and cayenne pepper. Whisk until well incorporated.

  • Pour the butter mixture over the cereal mixture and stir with a rubber spatula until cereal is completely coated.

  • Spread half of the mixture evenly into each rimmed baking sheet and, if desired, sprinkle lightly with coarse sea salt.

  • Place one sheet of party mix on each oven rack and bake at 250° for 45-60 minutes, stirring and rotating baking sheets every 15 minutes. The party mix will turn a beautiful golden brown when done.

  • Transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely. Store at room temperature, in an airtight container, up to 10 days or freeze up to 3 months. Enjoy!
