How to Make a Pumpkin Spice Latte at Home

Yea, we did it –made it through the first week of school!

It wasn’t easy; especially since we went cold turkey on our back-to-school bedtime/wake up routine. (Took a last-minute camping trip to our favorite campground – and “partied” up ’tilthe last day, lol!)

For the 1st few days, our pre-6am wake-up time went pretty well, but by Friday I’ll admit to hitting that snooze button at least twice.

Now, If you are anything like me and are excited about the arrival of fall and more specifically pumpkin spice lattes, you’re going to LOVE this Easy Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe I’m sharing today. (Starbucks is bringing their pumpkin spice lattes back on Sept 2nd, 2021 this year!)

There is just something about the velvety rich, sweet pumpkiny flavors that to me, is the perfect combination for my coffee fix. And I don’t mind admitting, that when I hit up Starbucks in the fall and winter, a Pumpkin Spice Latte is pretty much the only drink I order.

Since I work from home, I just don’t get out to Starbucks as much anymore. But that’s ok because I have what I think is the best recipe for a Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte. So not only am I saving a few bucks by making it myself, I can have it whenever I want!

The good news is this recipe only takes a few minutes to put together, is great for doubling and you can store the pumpkin cream mixture in its own container to add to your coffee anytime you get a Pumpkin Spice Latte craving.

What Are the Ingredients in a Pumpkin Spice Latte?

Heading to the store and want to give this recipe a shot? These are the ingredients to add to your list for the pumpkin spice latte. (Ingredients at a glace, grab the full recipe in the card at the bottom of the post

  • Milk | Any kind of milk – half n half, whole, nut milks or oat milk. You can really use whatever you like. Keep in mind if you use a thinner milk like almond or skim, you will need more milk for a richer latte. (I like to use either half n half, the Fairlife whole milk, or my homemade cashew milk.)
  • Canned Pumpkin | Make sure it is unsweetened pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling.
  • Sugar
  • Vanilla
  • Pumpkin pie spice
  • Strong Coffee | You can also use cold brew.
  • Optional toppers | caramel syrup, cinnamon, whipped cream for garnish – highly recommended if you want your drink to taste like a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte

This pumpkin spice latte recipe is amazing both hot and cold, so if it’s still too warm for hot coffee, you can enjoy it over ice too. Use whatever type of milk you prefer (the higher the fat, the richer and more delicious it will be.) This recipe is actually on the less sweet side so you can adjust your latte to your preferred sweetness level.

When I get a pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks I usually order a tall, made with half and half (breve) and one less pump of the pumpkin syrup, just because I don’t like mine as sweet.

You can use milk alternatives in this recipe. It won’t taste exactly like a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks, but it will be yummy. Also, keep in mind if you use a milk with less fat content, you may need to add more of the pumpkin cream to your coffee to get the desired latte consistency.

How to Make a Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte

The recipe below is more of a Pumpkin Creamer recipe. I like to make the homemade pumpkin spice creamer and store it separately from the coffee. This way I can add as much as I want whenever I want.

To make the Pumpkin Latte:

  1. Whisk together the milk, pumpkin, sugar, vanilla, and pumpkin pie spice in a heavy saucepan over med-high heat. Keep whisking until the milk starts to bubble. You’ll then remove the pan from the heat.
  2. Then add the desired amount of the the pumpkin cream to your coffee to make a latte.
  3. Serve with optional whipped cream, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and a drizzle of caramel on top.

That’s it!
